Relevant Coursework

Here you will find information about the courses that I took to enrich my Spanish and business skills, as well as my general knowledge. As you will see, the LAIB curriculum requires a slew of courses, most of which are focused on developing the business and Spanish acumens of the student. In addition to a few general electives, my four years in this major has provided me with a well-rounded knowledge about Business, Spanish and International Business that I am eager to carry into my upcoming post-graduation life. 

Language-Oriented Courses

SPAN 2010 Intermediate Spanish

Instructed in Spanish. This course expands upon the basic foundation of the Spanish language and applies slightly more complex grammar and vocabulary at an intermediate level to develop written and conversational skills.

SPAN 3060 Spanish Composition for Business

Instructed in Spanish. This course serves as an introduction to using Spanish in a professional setting. This class provides instruction on grammar and vocabulary that should be used to showcase one’s professionalism.

SPAN 3050 Intermediate Spanish Conversation/Composition I

Instructed in Spanish. This course expands further upon the groundwork laid by SPAN 2010 and continues to develop written and oral Spanish communication skills with an emphasis on class discussion.

SPAN 3160 Spanish for International Business I

Instructed in Spanish. This class applies previous Spanish language knowledge to the world of international business by introducing business-related vocabulary and guiding students to use a global mindset while focusing on business in Latin American countries.

​SPAN 4160 Spanish for International Business II

Instructed in Spanish. This class builds on the foundation laid by SPAN 3160 by taking the previously learned business concepts and applying them to real-life  business current-events. This class also has a heavy emphasis on further developing business related vocabulary.

SPAN 301 Advanced Spanish (Seville)

Instructed in Spanish. This class provides a space for students to use their Spanish speaking skills in an open, discussion-based setting. Conversations in this class are typically focused on Spain and Spanish culture.

Culture and Literature Courses

HIST 3400 Latin America I

Course currently in progress. This course is an introduction to the history of Latin America during the colonization period by evaluating the impact that the Spanish conquest had on the rest of Latin America.

ENGL 2150 20th-21st Century Literature: Dystopian

This course analyzes modern social and political issues through the lens of several 20th-21st century dystopian novels including Station Eleven, the Handmaid’s Tale, and Never Let Me Go.

SPAN 352 Spanish Civilization and Culture (Seville)

Instructed in Spanish. This course covers the history of Spain and both its historical and modern-day culture and civilization. Through lectures, field trips, and real-world examples, this course provides students with a foundational understanding of Spain as a country. 

SPAN 361 Spanish Contemporary Literature (Seville)

Instructed in Spanish. This course examined Spanish culture through the lens of several contemporary novels written by Spanish authors. The selected books reflect several important aspects of Spanish civilization and its history.

SPAN 4050 International Trade, Film & Literature

Course currently in progress. Instructed in Spanish. This course evaluates the culture, history, and modern day struggles of several different Latin American countries by examining a series of Spanish films and written texts.

Business Courses

ACCT 2010 Financial Accounting Concepts

This course serves as an introduction to financial accounting concepts and instructs students about the importance of  keeping up with financial status, both in personal and professional life.

​

ECON 2110 Principles of Microeconomics

This course is an introduction to economic reasoning and how it applies to consumer behavior and business firms. This was the first economics course I took, so it laid the foundation for further economic concepts by covering competition, monopoly, and international trade.

ECON 2120 Principles of Macroeconomics

This course takes economic foundations and applies them to the study of aggregate economic performance with specific emphasis on inflation rates, unemployment, and economic growth. 

​

ECON 3140 Intermediate Microeconomics

This course expands on the foundation provided by ECON 2110 by taking the fundamentals of microeconomics and applying them to more complex, variable markets.

​

ECON 3100 International Economics

This course takes the foundations laid by ECON 2110 and 2120 and applies them to the international market space, with emphasis placed on exchange rates and the impacts of international trade.

​

MKT 3250 Professional Selling

Course currently in progress. This course serves as an introduction to the principles of successful selling. It uses varying role plays and group projects to examine and practice the most effective strategies to convey a message and secure a sale.

PCID 3040 Business Comm and Info Design

This course introduces students to useful writing and communication strategies for a professional setting. Centrally based around a semester-long project, this class offers insight in how to communicate effectively and offer suggestions in a professional manner.

MGT 2010 Principles of Management

This class introduces the fundamentals of management and leadership roles in the world of business. It focuses specifically on effective communication and leadership styles that are crucial to successful management.

MGT 3030 Global Business

This course expands upon the principles of management and applies them to a more global landscape. This class focuses on cultural differences and how to adapt to those in the workplace, as well as how to work effectively with different countries through international business.

​

MKT 3010 Principles of Marketing

This course introduces the principles of marketing by covering the concepts involved in planning, pricing, promoting, and distributing products and services to a wide range of consumers.

​

MKT 3020 Consumer Behavior

This class dives into the psychology of marketing and how to target specific consumers. It instructs students to analyze their target market and alter their strategies to appeal to a certain audience.

​

MKT 4270 International Marketing

This class examines the hierarchy of human needs and how these intrinsic motivators impact consumer behavior. With a high focus on group work and country profile presentations, this class analyzes how certain marketing strategies are effective in some cultures, but not in others.

​

MKT 3320 Digital Marketing

Course currently in progress. This course examines the role of digital advertising in modern marketing by analyzing the major digital marketing platforms and how they can be best utilized to add value to a brand.
